A policyholder is an individual or entity who owns and is named on an insurance policy. This person or organization has entered into a contractual agreement with an insurance company, and in return for paying premiums, the insurance company agrees to provide coverage and financial protection against specific risks, losses, or damages as outlined in the insurance policy. The policyholder is entitled to the benefits of the policy, including the filing of a claim in the event of a covered incident. The policyholder has the responsibility to uphold the terms of the policy, such as paying premiums on time and notifying the insurer of any changes that may affect coverage. The policyholder may also be referred to as the insured.
